Three rivers,
a lake, a reservoir, and a trout
stream are located within 5
miles of the Buckhorne.
The Cowpasture River and the
Jackson River meet to form the
James River, and Wilson Creek, a
designated Virginia trout
stream, flows from Douthat Lake
into the Jackson River. A
trout stocked reservoir owned by
the Town of Clifton Forge also
provides good fishing.
The Buckhorne sells fishing
tackle and live bait, and its
campers may fish in the trout
stream that runs through the
campground.

Channel 10 of
Roanoke awarded its "Fisherman
of the Year" award in 2006 to
Christy Fender for landing this
40", 16 pound muskie while
fishing in a canoe in the
Cowpasture River about 6 miles
from the Buckhorne.

This muskie
caught by Aaron Simmons in 2000
out on the Cowpasture River
weighed 20 pounds.

Ray returns with his catch of the day from Wilson
Creek where he fell in neck deep.
Wilson Creek flows through the Buckhorne Campground.

Ray measures a 17" small mouth bass a camper caught
in Wilson Creek near the camp store.
