Beauty abounds in the Alleghany Highlands where water flows down from the mountains in search of the sea.

Falling Spring can be viewed by traveling north on Route 220 toward Hot Springs from Covington about 15 miles from the Buckhorne.

Douthat State Park's dam is located upstream from the Buckhorne about four miles.

The white sand beach at Douthat Lake is open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
